Beacon Information Security (Pty) Ltd (“Beacon”, “we”, “us”) is committed to protecting personal information and respecting privacy. This Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”).

This notice applies to personal information processed through our website, communications, and business interactions.

2.1 Information you provide voluntarily

  • Name and surname
  • Organisation and role
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Information submitted via contact forms or email correspondence

2.2 Website usage information

  • IP address (in limited cases)
  • Browser and device information
  • Pages visited and interaction data (in aggregated or anonymised form where possible)

2.3 Client and engagement-related information

Where Beacon provides services under a written agreement, additional personal information may be processed as necessary to perform those services. Such processing is governed by the applicable service agreement.

Beacon does not intentionally collect special personal information unless required by law or explicitly agreed in writing.

3. Purpose of processing

Beacon processes personal information for the following purposes:

  • Responding to enquiries and communications
  • Assessing suitability and scope for potential engagements
  • Providing contracted services
  • Maintaining internal records and audit trails

Beacon may disclose personal information to:

  • Service providers supporting website hosting, communications, or business systems (e.g. ERP or analytics providers)
  • Professional advisors where necessary (e.g. legal or accounting)
  • Regulators or authorities where required by law

Personal information is not sold or traded.

Where third-party operators process personal information on Beacon’s behalf, appropriate contractual safeguards are in place.

6. Cross-border data transfers

Some service providers used by Beacon may process personal information outside South Africa.

Where cross-border transfers occur, Beacon takes reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is protected in a manner consistent with POPIA, including through contractual protections.

7. Information security

Beacon implements reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, disclosure, or misuse.

No system is entirely secure; however, Beacon seeks to ensure that personal information is handled responsibly and proportionately.

8. Data retention

Personal information is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

When personal information is no longer required, it is securely deleted or anonymised.

9. Data subject rights

In terms of POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Request access to personal information held about you
  • Request correction or deletion of inaccurate or outdated information
  • Object to processing in certain circumstances
  • Withdraw consent, where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator

Beacon uses cookies and similar technologies as described in the Cookie Policy.

Where consent is required, optional cookies are only activated after consent is provided.

11. Changes to this Privacy Notice

Beacon may update this Privacy Notice from time to time to reflect changes in law, technology, or business practices.

The most current version will always be published on this page with an updated effective date.
